Trials and Tribulations of a Midgardian

Redirection

Posted on 2014-Sep-26 at 12:38 AM

Been becoming more inclined to make blog updates to the Ragnarok Wiki rather than here. I dunno, I just find it easier to make blog entries on there compared to here. Plus, I'm always on there updating stuff anyhow.

Yeah, I know Wikia blogs isn't better than an actual site dedicated to blogs. But, you know, convenience and all.

Dying (With Laughter)

Posted on 2014-Apr-30 at 12:41 PM

A few nights ago, I partied up with some regulars on the iRO Community RaidCall. It was pretty fun; a Stalker, a Knight, and a Sage, what could possibly go wrong?

Oh.

But it was still quite fun. Felt like pre-Renewal RO all over again, partying up with other people and having adventures all over Rune-Midgarts. Why don't people want to do that anymore and just cramp themselves into Gramps TI maps? There's so much more to RO than just Gramps. It disappoints me how people want to limit themselves to what RO has to offer.

Best Friends

Posted on 2014-Apr-16 at 12:15 AM

Ever since a good friend of mine died in 2010 and a coworker I was really fond of died in 2013, I've been trying hard to reach out to anyone who cares to remember me. So when my best bud told me he was having a birthday party, I made the effort to drive those 20+ miles to his place from work (Disneyland) to see him. I got lost for about half an hour before I finally found the party location. (Dem inside streets.)

At the end of the night when most of his other friends went home, we talked and he started tearing up about how alone he had been feeling and how he missed the good ol' days when we were kids and doing all sorts of shenanigans. We lost touch with each other 9 years ago so he was pretty happy to see me again.

Even as kids, I never abandoned him despite everyone spreading rumors about us as a couple or when other kids would pick on him for being so girly. (He since came out as real flamingly gay.) He never did invite me to any of this birthday parites until now, but I was never really bothered by that for some reason. He was the first best friend I've ever had and nothing anyone could ever say would change that.

He didn't have to, but he apologized to me profusely about not trying hard enough to keep in contact with me all those years. I've gotten used to seeing friends come and go, but I've always maintained a stance of always being there for them if they ever needed someone to talk to or a shoulder to cry on. (And I guess I've extended that somewhat to the iRO community.)

With him and my other best friend that I can always count on now, I guess I can't really feel all that alone anymore.

Fanfiction

Was looking through my Fanfiction.net account and remembered this RO one-shot I wrote a long time ago.

I've been toying around with ideas to expand on it since I read it over, but nothing substantial has been established yet. Maybe the RP thread in the WarpPortal Forums will spark something.

On a Quest to Quest

Posted on 2014-Feb-21 at 04:01 AM

It's been a long road of rigorous questing that has led me here to compiling the Ragnarok Wiki today. In the past, I've been hesitant to quest in RO because I just suck at pre-Renewal mechanics and monsters. I could never make enough money to buy the gears I need to complete these story quests in areas that I felt was far out of my reach because of lacking the proper gears. I am saddened to have never completed Dandelion's Request because of this.

With Renewal, questing has become more accessible for me and other players like me. I've discovered a side of the game I never though would ever be within my reach. With the help of fellow players from the iRO community, I finally completed my very first quest chain (Arunafeltz) and I couldn't be happier. :D

In addition to doing these quests, I've also reported current bugs and glitches that came with Renewal and I hope to see those resolved so that other players can have even more success at RO questing.

My quest to quest is far from over and there's plenty more in RO I've yet to discover. Here's to another year of RO questing!

Lunar New Year Event

Posted on 2014-Jan-30 at 08:07 PM

So, aside from Oda and Campitor fibbing about re-enabling DBs on all the maps, my Lunar New Year event was pretty decent. <<

Didn't get to spawn 2013 DBs on Louyang's field, but at least BBs still worked. Everyone enjoyed it for the most part, but I really wished we could've been able to break DBs along with the BBs.

Oh well, maybe next year.

Spilling the Beans

Follow-up to a previous blog entry...

At long last, the beans have been spilled.

It looks like the ripple effect other people and I started finally got Eddz out of the woodwork. Still don't forgive him for leaving all of us in the dark about MangaBullet and Anipan until the very last minute.

Transitioning MangaBullet to Anipan because Japanese users can't pronounce MangaBullet? Well, you know what, they're free to continue using Pixiv since that site's mainly in Japanese. MangaBullet was created for the English-speaking sector of the anime and manga community and I happen to prefer the name of MangaBullet over Anipan. After all, the site did have manga-support, something that not even deviantART has.

Yeah, so MangaBullet was born as a hobby project but became something bigger. Ads would've still helped keep the site afloat. I can't help but call BS on his claim that MB had ads. When I joined the site in 2010, there was barely any ads at all and those disappeared some time after I joined. So I don't believe he and the others truly did all they could to keep MB alive. If a site like Fanart Central is able to stay alive (for 12 years and counting!), I find it hard to believe that the same can't be of MB.

I could forgive that they really did run out of money and financially could not keep the site running at all. But what I cannot forgive was that with all the communication portals (Twitter, Facebook, deviantART), he did not give one, NOT ONE, update on MB or Anipan's progressing failure. No, he tried to keep as quiet about everything as possible until I and other angry users tracked him down and spread all the slander (which I believe is well-deserved for all the agonizing silence he put everyone through).

I can't help but hope his Inkr project falls through just like MB and Anipan.

One Apple Spoils the Bunch

Tried to start up a RO1 pun thread to put RO2's pun thread to shame.

MVP - Most Veritable Puns

It was going fine until frickin' Eunbay came in and started spamming it with her postcount crap. And she wonders why members of the community are frickin' annoyed with her. Basically used my thread as her own maintenance chat thread. The hell's her problem?? Go make your own thread instead of crapping on mine!!

UGH!!!

These are the Special Times

Posted on 2013-Dec-27 at 10:14 PM

On a whim, I decided to host a Christmas event this year for the community of iRO.

Secret Odin Gift Exchange (2013)

Making this thread, I thought to myself "Eh, the iRO community isn't that generous. I'll probably get maybe 20-30 people at most."

Secret Odin Gift Exchange (2013): Phase 2

Little did I expect over 150 players would sign up to participate in what I thought would be a small event. :o Even more unexpected was the amount of players generous enough to become Secret Odins and part with their hard-earned items to make someone's Christmas very special.

Well, the day finally came and it was time for me to become an event host for the very first time. I looked at the stack of Megaphones that CM Oda gave me and felt hesitant to use them. The amount of people that showed up was already overwhelming for me, do I really want random players showing up on top of that? Well, as long as I don't tell them where the event is, I suppose that's okay.

Right...?

With the first Megaphone, I announced that there was 1 hour left until the Secret Odin event starts. Almost immediately, random people began PMing me about the Secret Odin event and if I was a GM. I knew it, using the Megaphone was an insanely bad idea. D: But at the same time, I want to give people advance notice so they wouldn't be late. So I braced myself for the next wave of random PMs and used the next Megaphone to announce the 30-minute mark. Then the 5-minute mark...

Finally, it was time to start the event. /swt

With butterflies in my stomach, I begin recording the event and talking in the iRO RaidCall. Aside from the annoying trolls that kept spamming skills in the crowd and the numerous conversations going on, I remained focused and began calling out players' in-game names for them to receive their gifts from their Secret Odins. After the rocky beginning, which slowed down the event considerably, things began to quicken about an hour in. Apparently, a bunch of Secret Odins and/or registered players ended up being no-shows, which was pretty disheartening. Even though I tried hard to proxy for the Secret Odins that actually took the time to tell me they were unable to come, I still missed a registered player. (I'm so sorry, RedKing! D8 )

Initially, I had planned to call out the list of unclaimed players after the claimed players, but since the claimed players list took so long to finish, I decided to go ahead and spring the surprise finale on the remaining players and then traded off Gift Boxes to those who were left. I had a feeling most of the unclaimed players would have decided not to come anyhow if they weren't going to get what they asked for.

Secret Odin Gift Exchange (2013): Feedback

Despite all the difficulties and the trolling that went on, the community mostly enjoyed the event and would like it to return next year. I've learned a lot from planning and hosting this event and would be sure to make improvements. Although, if WarpPortal implements another Christmas quest in Lutie next year, I'm not sure if I'll hold the event in Lutie again. All those passersby were pretty annoying.

The Plot Thickens

Seems that there are others doing similar investigations on Eddz as well.

http://anipan.userecho.com/topic/338362-so-is-anipan-dead-or-will-there-be-any-hope-of-the-site-returning-anytime-soon/

This one piqued my interest since it says that Eddz is not alone in this.

http://anipan.userecho.com/topic/354347-do-not-fund-eddz-nor-toad-in-any-of-the-future-endeavors/

I wonder if  my previous blog entry had anything to do with those rumors.
